Follow me

Follow me

Recap from last message

-an active engagement.
-Be my attender.
-The only demand from Jesus was to follow Jesus.

The categories of people who Jesus called to follow include
-the educated
-the less educated
-fishermen
-Greek
-tax collectors
-people with varied personalities for eg:like peter – who was always quick to respond;like Thomas-who doubted;like Judas.
Jesus called people from all walks of life, unlike what we see in the vast majority of groups that has just the elites.
Pr shared his personal experience when an educated person from another religion asked him, What his plan was?Pr responded by saying to reach out to the villages and to speak to the village folk. Then he responded but “What about people like me?”
This got Pastor thinking!

In Jesus’s church, the beauty is that all people are there!
Eg-Paul, peter , etc

Our mistake is that, we think that Jesus only called the 12.

The 12 was a very special call.
Luke 9:23
-A call to all to follow Jesus .
The call for the 12 was a very special call.
Luke 9:59
He called another man -Follow me

The call for Jesus is for all!
It doesn’t have to be a specific call to each one of us.
Many a time we are worried about others!

Be involved in Jesus.
Our call is to follow Jesus.

In Luke 18:22
Jesus talks to a rich man.
He needs us all, the poor and the rich.
One command-Follow me.

Here we see a direct question by the man (He was a very wealthy man)to Jesus. The response by Jesus to the man was a costly one.( which was to go and sell all that he had. because of his great wealth , he became sad.

Many a time we see, People saying that I will listen , if Jesus / God will speak to me directly! Beware dear friend that could be a very costly answer!
“Do what you can in the light of what you have received “
Take the steps!
If Our Lord Jesus directly demands, you may not be able to meet the demand on you. ( as in the case of the wealthy man above)

In John 10:27
My sheep will follow me.
His sheep has no demands.

A true sheep will just obey him.My Lord will not get it wrong. My Lord knows me well.He will carry me if it is warranted.

“Whatever the way, don’t worry about it.”
Remember, “who is carrying you”
You should be in the affirmative that
“He will never lead me in the wrong way.”We need to have complete trust in Jesus.
“Be sure that you Follow Jesus’
Your Savior will carry you”

The cost involved in following Jesus.
Following Jesus is a costly affair!
Three costs.
Luke 5:11
Peter didn’t hold on to the miracle (the large catch of fish when Jesus asked to cast the nets). Peter follows Jesus.
The First cost is an attitudinal change.
More than any miracle/one’s family/one’s Job/ministry-Above all is my father Jesus.
“Peter was willing to leave everything and to follow Jesus”
He was not building a life on the basis of the miracle.
“Jesus is greater than the miracle “
“My Jesus is greater than the greatest victory I can have”
More than material possession.
We need to have A mindset and an to follow Jesus.
We need to have a mindset/ an attitude to follow Jesus.
-to let go of everything else
Mark 1:18-they left their nets immediately.
Mathew 4;20,22-they left the nets and family
Luke-5:27,28-Tax collect Levi in a Tax booth.at work.Jesus said Follow me.

You may have to make difficult choices.
If a friendship to a particular person is going affect your relationship with Jesus, then say no to the person.
Sometimes, Jesus may not give you any time!Follow Jesus.

*seeing Jesus as always greater than anything else.
Philippians 3:7,8
Paul says that all things are worth nothing compared with the greatness of knowing Christ Jesus…

2)The cost
Luke 9:57-62
The moment you decide to follow Jesus, priorities change.
God becomes first.

God first
Family second
All else.
God will honour you.

3rd cost-Mark 1:18
So Simon and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed him.

Suddenly/at once/immediately they left their nets.

God wants an immediate response.
Timing is very important on God’s Kingdom.
The time God gives us is very important. Time gone is gone forever.

Luke 9:61
Jesus expecting an immediate response to follow Him.
You may not always get another opportunity.
Timing is very important as you may loose an opportunity forever.

-When God gives an opportunity to follow him and if we continuously reject him,we will reach a state when we become permanently blind.
God may not give you another opportunity. If you do not respond positively,it may lead to a permanent blindness –
John 12:18-
John 12:37
“Though Jesus had done many miracles in front of the people, they still did not believe him.”
C.S Lewis calls it Wilful Blindness!

Luke 16:27
The rich man’s cry from the tormenting place to send someone to inform his family.

Luke16:31
-they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.

Willfull Continuous rejection of the truth will lead to permanent blindness.

Romans 1:24,26,28
God gave up on them!
If God says, I have given up on him, a very dangerous situation.
God will give them over to their desires!
Vs28-God gave up on them,God gave them up to their own desires!

Ezekiel 14:14
Noah, Daniel, Job – they could only save themselves.

Ezekiel 14:20
Even if parents want to save you. They would not be able to save their own children.

Samuel and Moses were the greatest intercessors

Jeremiah 15:1
God says that even if Moses and Samuel stand the gap for the people of Judah.I will not show mercy.

Exodus 32:32
Moses intercedes for the People.
Moses asks his name to be taken from the book of life,if God refuses to forgive their sins.

Only you Your self can help yourself.
Wholeheartedly repent!

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
